Course FAQs

The following answers our most commonly asked questions, however if you are still unsure – please contact us either by phone, or the contact page.

Q: Generally training is free for schools that have paid for the Governor Training Buy Back, but how do I find out if my school has bought into this service?

A: Either contact your school, but if this is not possible - contact us through the website. When you book a course there is no commitment if you are not a Buy Back school, but who will cover the cost of the course needs to be agreed before your place is confirmed.  If there is any cost incurred for a particular course, this will be discussed with you by staff on course application.

Q: How do I make a booking?

A: The simplest way is to click on training courses button; however you may prefer to discuss certain items relating to the course, so please use the contact page for phone numbers and e-mail

Q: Can any establishment attend a course?

A: Yes, we just need to agree who is to cover the costs of the course if you are not a Buy Back school.

Q: What if a course is full?

A: You will be added to our waiting list. Our commitment, wherever possible, is to repeat a course that is over subscribed.

Q: How do I pay for a course if my school doesn't pay into Governor Training Buy Back?

A: We will contact you regarding payment when you apply for a course.

Q: Will I be charged if I don't attend a course?

A: If cancellation is made less than 5 working days prior to the event then full costs can be incurred by your school.

Q: Who delivers the training courses?

A: All our training is delivered by carefully recruited and quality assured consultants and trainers.

Q: Can we have training in our school on a date to suit us?

A: Yes, there is usually a minimum number, but please contact us to ask about arrangements.

Q: Can I do training on-line?

A: Yes, BGD has negotiated a group logon for NGA Learning Link

https://nga.vc-enable.co.uk/.

which gives on-line training modules. We still value face-to-face training where discussion, case histories and experiences of other governors tend to put what we do into real world context. Ask at your school, or the DTC, how to access this resource.

Q: What if none of the courses seem relevant?

A: We hope to cover most aspects of training for the modern governor, but if you need particular help – please ask. We are sure we can help.

If in doubt – ASK!
